Suzanne shares, “I never considered writing a book, but God graciously had just that in mind. In a period of six months, God brought to my attention the following stories of events or coincidences that are not mere examples of God’s intervention or guidance but powerful demonstrations of His transformative love and light in the lives of contributors to this book, Embraced by God’s Love and Light.
“We are not alone in this spiritual pilgrimage. As believers in Christ, the second person of the Godhead or the Trinity, we know who we are. We are children of God, as are all true believers. (1 John 3: 1-19, ESV). We believe that Jesus came to give us life and that eternal life is not just something we get when we die. We are alive in Christ right now. Christ followers also believe that Jesus came to undo the work of an evil force, the devil. (1 John 3:8, NIV). In our shared journey, we have discovered the reality of God’s presence in our lives and the reality of that evil force called Satan or the devil, who is also present in our world. Learning to live as a child of God and standing against the power of darkness are the foundations of this book, which is filled with stories of how God’s presence guides us. There is, however, only one book that should serve as the foundation for our faith and our daily walk — The Bible. If this book, Embraced by God’s Love and Light, can enhance that process and keep us more connected to Christ and our love of neighbours, I will be thrilled, and God will be thanked and praised.
“This book is not a solitary endeavour. I am deeply grateful to all those who have shared their ‘God stories’. Many contributions have been a source of encouragement for me and, I hope, for you. May you be enriched by their submissions of personal encounters with God and may He be glorified because of it.”
Sue’s life is a testament to her unwavering commitment to her community. She wishes she could have pursued her nursing career more fully but does not regret being at home raising the children in their formative years. Later, she found meaning as a Registered Nurse (career totaling 20 years) and an Ordained Minister/Chaplain (career of over 20 years and counting). When COVID-19 came, she retired from her Chaplaincy position. Sue continues to minister on an on-call basis, leads three ‘Life Groups,’ and is actively involved in her community with the Canadian Cancer Society (now for over 64 years – longest serving volunteer in Canada, and raised money during COVID-19 through a fundraising walk generating $15,000 for the Daily Bread Food Bank). She plays Bridge and Rummikub weekly, aims to walk 10,000 steps a day, leads various groups and volunteers, enjoys her family, and visits her husband in a long-term care home most days. Suzanne has published magazine articles on various topics and co-authored a successful self-help book, which is now out of print. While living alone, the long-term goal of this book, Embraced by God’s Love and Light, became an engaging and inspirational project.
In the movie “Chariots of Fire,” Suzanne resonates with Eric Liddell’s words, “When I run, I feel His pleasure.” This sentiment echoes in her own life, particularly when she offers messages, listens and encourages others as a Chaplain or officiates at weddings, and funeral/memorial services. Sue’s connection with God is not just unique, but profoundly special. She feels His presence, nudging, and blessings in the most unexpected coincidences and circumstances. Her gratitude for being a part of the family of God and a child of the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ, is a testament to her deep faith and spiritual journey.
(Romans 8:9) says, “You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness,” This scripture captures the essence of a spiritual journey. It speaks to the transformative power of the Spirit and the eternal life it brings; a comforting belief that guides committed Christians in a life of faith and hope.
“One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.”
(Psalm 27:4, NIV)
and,
“Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.”
(1 John 3: 2, NIV)
These verses capture the beauty and hope that Suzanne finds in her faith, inspiring her to continue her daily journey with Christ to become a more authentic.
